Best Way to Spend a Weekend in Newcastle
This is some text inside of a div block.

Located a 2-and-a-half-hour drive North of Sydney the laid-back beachy vibe town of Newcastle has everything you need to make for a great weekend! To make sure you spend your weekend enjoying the beaches, café hopping, taking in the rugged Newcastle Coastlines, we’ve put together a little itinerary for your enjoyment.

Day 1  |  Weekend Roadtrip in Newcastle

Morning

We are going to start things off like every holiday should – with a hot cup of coffee and warm pastry or breakfast at our local favourite spot – Autumn Rooms. Two locations in Newcastle, one right down town on Darby St (Full Café) and one over in Stockton (Coffee Bar) you can enjoy one of the best local cups of coffee wherever you might be. Autumn Room on Darby St has become popular due to its eclectic menu, inviting casual atmosphere, excellent coffee, and great staff. With a few staple items Autumn Room changes their menu with the seasons always keeping it fresh and keeping you guessing. After a nice cuppa coffee and a tasty meal jump make your way to Nobbys Beach. The beach is widely known for 19th century lighthouse walk the proving views of the harbour overlooking the ocean – take your time to walk up to the lighthouse and down to the end of the breakwater. If you feel like extending your walk the nearby Foreshore Park is a great spot to enjoy the walk along the water capping off a perfect Newcastle morning.

Afternoon

Make your way over the one of Newcastle’s newest venues QT. Housed in one of Newcastle’s oldest buildings, the 113-year-old David Jones building in the Newcastle’s city centre is now home to one of the cities nicest rooftop restaurants and bars.

Evening

Enjoy a sunset stroll along the Newcastle Memoria, a walk that commemorates the World Veterans all while enjoying the breathtaking cliffsides, sweeping views of both the surrounding beaches and Newcastle city. Enjoy spectacular scenery every step of the way like none other here in Newcastle.

Day 2  |  Newcastle – the ticket to a wonderful sunrise

Morning

We love making the most of our holidays and soaking up every day we can from start to finish – to start day two off the right way we are going to get up and enjoy a sunrise from the Merewether Baths. Famous around Newcastle for providing picturesque sunrises all while jumping in for a early morning swim – the iconic spot is a must. Just around the corner is the Blue Door Kiosk, exactly where you want to be to enjoy a fresh breakfast after your early morning dip – we love starting our morning here with one of Blue Door’s famous Salted Caramel acai bowls. They are perfect for the active day we have got ahead of us. Right around the corner from the Café and the Merewether pools is the Glenrock Stat Conservation Area.

Afternoon

The Glenrock National Park is just a short drive and it is hard to believe that the rugged national parks are only a few minutes away from Newcastle. If you are from Sydney it might come as a surprise but there is no need to spend an hour in your car to get out of the city to the empty beaches. Depending on the time of year that you visit the NSW national parks provide excellent vantage points for whale watching right from land or if you are feeling up to it you can even find a whale watching. Like any national park, Glenrock is riddled with things to do everything from hiking, mountain biking, historic walking trails, and breath-taking beaches.

Evening

Now it’s your last night in town and we’ve saved the best for last, cap off an amazing road trip with a dinner overlooking the sea. With a few options to choose from East Coast Car Rentals Newcastle car hire has picked our two favourites. First up is Surf House Mereweather, the perfect place to enjoy a meal and continue to take in the surrounding scenery to cap off a great weekend – you can’t go wrong here sharing a few plates with your road tripping crew. Second, for a true ‘wowing’ culinary experience head over to Flotilla – the team there is focused on providing an experience you won’t forget from the atmosphere, community, and seasonal changing menu all sourced from local producers.
